Springfree Trampoline

Springfree trampoline

If we compare the springfree trampoline to the traditional trampoline, superficially they may look the same, but I think it’s important to notice the difference between the two, to see why one can reduce injury, as apposed to the other.

Springfree trampolines enable us to have a product which has the potential to reduce up to 85 percent of all trampoline injuries. (David Yearly is an injury prevention expert with the ROSPA – The royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. He is internationally recognized for his work with the play surfaces and reduction of playground injuries. Here he independently evaluated the Springfree Trampoline alongside a traditional enclosed model.)

Injuries on a springfree trampoline?

We find about 10-15% of injuries happen because there’s more than 1 person on a trampoline at the same time and they bump into each other. Now that’s something that either needs to be controlled through parental supervision, or it’s something that the manufacturer can’t do anything about.

Other areas that cause concern might be Falling off!

So we put a net on the trampoline, so hopefully we restrain the user inside the trampoline enclosure. Other than that, there’s some padding, over the springs (which is on the outside of the netting) and this covers the springs, and the steel frame. Impact with the springs, or impact with the frame will account for about a third of the serious injuries.

Now, it’s still possible, if you were to hit the padding with your head, that you’d come out with a fairly serious critical injury, and probably about a 90% chance of some kind of injury.

Often times, the frame is barely padded at all because it’s on the edge, and the padding can wear off. So there’s serious concern for any kind of head impact onto this kind of frame. Now since this design (the traditional trampoline) uses the net to keep us falling off the trampoline all together, if we’re on the inside of the trampoline, and we fall this way (towards the edge and against the net) then were still going to possibly fall onto the frame or into the springs.

The Nets on Springfree Trampoline

The net itself is held in place by poles which are padded, but again, the level of padding here on the pole, is the same as the padding on the frame. And it’s often not enough. A user, if they go against the net still has the same chances of injury hitting the frame, as they do the frame of the netting that’s supposed to stop them from getting hurt in the first place!

With a springfree trampoline, the first thing to address is to have a net. So we’ve got a net to make sure people don’t fall off!

It’s also important to make sure that the net is fitted underneath where there’s no chance for feet or arms (or heads!) to fall through and get caught. With a springfree trampoline there’s very little chance of getting caught at all in the netting. You cannot fall out from underneath the net.

There’s soft edge technology so that the edge gives, and there’s no hard frame there for a user to hit if they fall. The poles which hold the net up are thin and flexible (yet very strong). They’re curved, and bowed out to make sure they are away from the trampoline jumping area. Even if (with a lot of effort!) you can make contact with the pole through the net, you’ll find that the pole gives, and makes very little impact. So you won’t get any injuries associated with hitting the pole.
